Introduction
Welcome to The World of Soccer Blog!
Hello Everyone! My name is Gaffer #1, and I am the head author of this blog! Posts will often be once a week just recapping some of the results and controversies from matches across the globe! The main league focuses will be the MLS, UCL, and EPL! I will also focus on any major international friendlies and tournaments, as well as on my three favorite teams, Manchester United, Columbus Crew, and the US Men's National Team. I hope you enjoy and comment on my content!
To start the blog, I want to give everyone a recap on league tables this season! In the MLS, after last night's victory over the Columbus Crew, Inter Miami has claimed the #1 seed in the East Conference heading into the playoffs towards the end of the month. In the West, the LA Galaxy still hold a convincing 7-point lead on crosstown rivals LAFC, after last night's 3-1 win over Colorado, however, LAFC do have a game in hand, so they could still catch the Galaxy if they were to fail to win one of the remaining two games they have.
In the EPL, Liverpool sits at the top of the table after 6 games with 15 points. Man City and Arsenal follow behind them in 2nd and 3rd, both with 14 points. Finally, Chelsea rounds out the top 4 with 13 points. For the other "Top 6" teams in the EPL, Tottenham sit in 8 and Man United, who have had a dreaded start to the campaign, sit in 13th. Sitting in the relegation zone after 6 games are Crystal Palace, 3 points, Southampton, 1 point, and Wolves, 1 point.
Finally, moving to the UCL, after only 2 games a piece, the biggest surprise of the campaign at the moment is Brest, a smaller known French side in Ligue 1, beating most recently two Austrian powerhouses in Sturm Graz, 2-1, and Red Bull Salzburg, 4-0. Others in the top 8 after two matches, with Brest (France), who will automatically qualify for the round of 16, include Dortmund (Germany), Benfica (Portugal), Leverkusen (Germany), Liverpool (England), Aston Villa (England), Juventus (Italy), and Manchester City (England). The biggest side off to a rough start with two straight losses is Italian powerhouse AC Milan. However, American winger, Christian Pulisic, is playing some of the absolute best soccer of his professional career with 7 goal contributions, in all competitions so far this short season.
